Jersey Shore began airing in 2009 on MTV, and featured outrageous, ridiculous, and, in some weird circumstances, totally depressing 20-something old adults living their lives. What was reality and what was exaggerated reality is beside the point. The show immediately gained a cult following, and by Season 2 and arguably 3, the series was launched into full blown mainstreamdom. Paul DelVecchio, Mike Sorrentino, Vinny Guadagnino, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Sammi ‘Sweetheart’ Giancola, Jenni ‘Jwoww’ Farley and the famed Nicole ‘Snookie’ Polizzi immediately obtained a wide sort of publicity- famous but not famous for all the best of reasons.
Amidst this cast was an underrated star named Angelina Pivarnick. Pivarnick existed in a weird middle-ground void amongst the cast members. She wasn’t the immediate superstar center-of-attention psychopath like a few of the others, but she was a notable and polarizing ‘character.’ You could feel that there was a semblance of humanity hidden underneath the camera controversy sheen, unlike ‘Snookie,’ who really seemed to be as ridiculous as the camera said.
Angelina Pivarnick began alongside the first season of the show, but became a mainstay in Season 2. Due to an altercation with a few castmembers, and her refusal to take position at her assigned job, she was let go from the show. In some ways, it was for the better (one being that Season 3 of The jersey Shore fell flat, somewhat because of her absence).
So here we are in 2013, and Pivarnick is again pursing a spot in reality television. Her Kickstarter is in support of the new television show, where all funds raised will go towards shooting the pilot of the show. After shooting, the show will be pitched to executives for possible airing in late 2013. Donations earn anything ranging from a dinner with Pivarnick to a personal tweet.
While some roll their eyes, there is a whole group of people ecstatic to see her pursue her dreams after her controversial dealing on the famed MTV show.
‘The Comeback’ finds Pivarnick surrounded by close friends, and enjoying the ramifications and exposure of her newfound fame following the Jersey Shore and her latest musical endeavors. She sings and dances, and tries to find work, relationships, and fun in her favorite town.
Many seem to argue that she got the short end of the stick. In all fairness, she probably did. If anyone was to return to television, it should be her, as her pairing of sincere honesty and unabashed ruthlessness will make for excellent television. But she has another side- a softer sullen side that will reflect her obvious happiness in being herself and the love for her friends and family. This did not surface on The Jersey Shore for obvious reasons, but fans and friends know full well she radiates this.
Angelina Pivarnick is a likable and often controversial subject, and despite her shortcomings like any person, she is inherently built for television. ‘The Comeback’ hopes to supercede the stereotypes and step outside the notorious collective of The Jersey Shore. Her show will display her in greater depth, showcasing a wild side, a loving side, and a wonderful side- a mixture for some of the best reality television we can expect.
