This amazing product that protects not only our kid’s butts from germs off public toilet seats, but also our own. It’s such a simple idea, yet it is totally new to the marketplace here in North America, and its inventor Linda Grant took the time to talk with The Levity Ball all about it…
- How did you come up with the idea for Potty Boss?
I came up with the idea as a grandmother while on public outings with my young granddaughter. During these outings when she was using the public toilets the idea came to me that there should be something to protect her, like a barrier between the toilet seat and her little bottom. There was one particularly stressful day as I was rushing from stall to stall with my fussy granddaughter, most of the toilet seats were dirty. When finding a clean one to use my granddaughter had another problem, she was fearful of falling in. It was a total disaster, I felt so bad for her. No child should have the experience anything like this, especially when they are transitioning in potty training from home toilets to public toilets.
- What did your family and friends first think when you told them you were going to pursue this?
There were many different responses when I told them about my vision of creating a travel kids potty. Some were positive like: “That’s a great idea!” “You can do it and this is really needed!” “I haven’t seen anything like this in the stores”… Others were not so sure about my vision and they had concerns and questions.
- As an entrepreneur, what initial challenges did you face before everything finally came together?
There were several challenges: Trusting people with the idea before it was patent. Finding manufacturers for quotes. Finances.
- Why does the marketplace and people/children need your product?
The marketplace needs my product to assist parents and caregivers to provide protection for the children from germs, bacteria, fluids and grime left on public toilets. It gives the parents the opportunity to continue potty training while on the go. This product focuses strictly on children which helps to minimize the stressful experiences for children as well as parents and caregivers on the go.
- What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t give up.
- What is your advice for others that want to create their own type of products?
My advice would be, it does not matter what your age or background is, stay focus, follow your dream and enjoy the journey.
- Where do you see Potty Boss in 5 years from now?
In 5 years I see Potty Boss with additional products, songs, a cartoon series, potty training books and many accessories, as well as being a global brand in the travel kid’s potty industry.
- And final question: What do you want to be remembered for?
I would like to be remembered as an investor/inventor who designed a product to help protect our children worldwide from germs, bacteria, fluids and grime when, transitioning from home toilets to public toilet seats.
