Rock group ‘The Killers’ haven’t seen much action likely. After 2008’s ‘Day and Age’ album and subsequent tour, the band announced their hiatus and disappeared from the public consciousness like a b-grade hair metal band in the late 90’s. Yet, it was only a matter of time until the foursome said no to whatever they were doing, and gathered together to prep a new album. ‘Battle Born,’ due September 18, is the culmination of many recording sessions over the past year and a half. The album is expected to be a wild deviation from their previous album which relied heavy and keyboards and dance beats. ‘Battle Born’ seems theatrical, and focusing on themes that run deeper than a typical mainstream rock record.
Lead single ‘Runaways’ debuted a few months back, and it failed to gain the recognition of most of The Killers previous big-leading singles, such as ‘Mr. Brightside’ and ‘When You Were Young.’ Based on buzz, I expect this to be their worst-selling album. Call me a pessimist, but ‘Day and Age’ was less than stellar, and the lead single here made a baby splash consequentially inferior to their previous hits.
The Killers are expected to go on a massive world tour following the release, which will likely run through the duration of 2013. The tracklist consists of 12 songs, and the deluxe edition will include an additional 3.
The Killers debuted in 2004 with one of the all-time best modern albums in ‘Hot Fuss,’ still considered a classic and legendary album following the indie rock movement of the early 00’s. ‘Battle Born’ seems to recall themes of aggression, victory, and theatrics with the strong Les Vegas tie-ins. Expect a worldwide release September 18.
