Green Day are modern punk rock pioneers. After having crafted albums youth, filled with lyrics on smoking pot, masturbating, and, um, punk rock, the famous trio of Dookie-doers are releasing a trilogy of albums- Uno!, Dos! and Tre!
For those who are morons, that is 1, 2, and 3, in Spanish. It is still unclear whether each album will be full-length or e.p. length, but they will be released two months apart starting September 2012 and following a release November 2012 and January 2013.
What is known is that the albums will be thematically tied, and they are being recorded in Green Day’s hometown of Oakland, California.
The group had this classy thing to say regarding the release:
We are at the most prolific and creative time in our lives. This is the best music we’ve ever written, and the songs just keep coming. Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can’t help ourselves… We are going epic as fuck!
The album trilogy will be their first release since 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown. Green Day have been sporadic the last decade, leaving large gaps between studio releases. Their last album prior to 21st Century Breakdown was American Idiot, which saw massive success and a release in 2004.
The group are expected to do a full-fledged worldwide tour in 2013. In the meantime, they are playing some scattered festival dates, available on their website, posted below:
