He may only be seven, but actor Bobby Batson is already way ahead of years and peers, starring next in September’s big film, 90 Minutes in Heaven. The Levity Ball sat down with the cute child star to find out more…
You are only 7-years-old, and 6 when you filmed, how did you manage to land a role opposite both Kate Bosworth and Hayden Christensen in the upcoming film, 90 Minutes in Heaven?
My agent, Avery Sisters Entertainment sent me the audition and one of my acting coaches; Anthony Paderewski taped me auditioning for it. About a week later, my agent called and told us I booked “90 Minutes in Heaven”! We danced around!
What was it like working with them both? Any funny stories on set?
They were so nice and generous. Kate always would hug me and tell me I’m doing a good job. Her and Michael Polish (her husband and the director) bought everyone cupcakes for Valentine’s Day! They were so good! Hayden would pat my head and encourage me during the tough scenes where he looked scary. Hayden even gave me an Anakin Skywalker figure that he signed “To Bobby – Awesome working together! Your pal, Hayden”
Were you nervous the first day on set?
Yes, a little but everyone was so nice I felt better right away.
How did you first get into acting and how old were you?
My older sister Maggie is an actor. When the agent picked up her they noticed me and my brother John and asked if we were actors too. We were both like YES! I had to turn 5 first though. I was 5 when I shot my first national commercial.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Stay strong and be positive. “I’m always strong and positive”.
What other actors do you look up to?
I don’t know a bunch of actors but I really look up to Hayden. He has been acting since he was a kid like me. My mom said he has turned out great.
What do your family and friends think of your new fame?
They think it’s awesome! My teacher, Mrs. Harris and classmates sent me notes while I was filming “90 Minutes in Heaven” telling me how much they missed me and how happy they are for me. It made me so happy! My family is so excited too! My papaw, Don Shipman, hands out my cards to everyone he meets and brags about me. Even when I’m with him. Then people want to take my picture.
Now living in Georgia, do you see yourself eventually convincing your mom and dad to move you to Hollywood full time?
I would love too!! My dad is in the Army so we live where the Army wants us to live for now. I’m very proud of my dad.
You are still young, but if you could change one thing in the world today, what would it be?
There would be no more fighting in the world. None of my friends would have to see their mom or dads go to war. All the kids in the world would be safe.
And the final question: Where do you see yourself in five years from now, besides being older?
Hopefully I will still be acting… I really love it!! I know I will still be playing football, basketball and baseball though whenever I have the chance! 🙂
