Tegan and Sara’s frustrating inactivity for 2011 was brutal for fans aching for some new material or new anything from the Canadian duo. Their pop sensibilities and adorable musical approach, balanced by true and fantastic songwriting, has gathered them a healthy fan base. But like any good band, they can’t be around all the time. The band did help appease some fan anticipation with a 2011 live release called ‘Get Along.’ It remains a sensational selection of acoustic tracks throughout their entire career.
Fortunately, Tegan and Sara have announced a recent string of dates for late 2012 (posted below). The dates span Canada and the West Coast (sorry Europe, for now) and are co-headlining dates with the garage rock group The Black Keys. On the list for 2012 is a slew of new merchandise, and, more importantly, the addition of the finishing touches on Tegan and Sara’s still untitled new album.
This will be the follow-up to 2009’s ‘Sainthood,’ which brought the duo out of their independent shell and into mainstream success. Tours with Paramore, and a headlining American tour, allowed them to stand on their own ground as fresh new artists.
This will be the group’s fifth studio album. The band says to expect some new songs on this latest tour, as well as a slight acoustic slant.
Tegan and Sara’s fifth album is tentatively scheduled for an early 2013 release.
